Making Gay History: Before Stonewall

Video & Projection Design for Theatre

Making Gay History: Before Stonewall is an adaptation of Eric Marcus’ oral history podcast and book of the same name into a live documentary theatrical event. The play brings to life the rich history of activism, organizing, and resistance that preceded the 1969 Stonewall uprising using the verbatim words of twenty pioneers who blazed a trail for LGBTQ equality - from Harry Hay to Sylvia Rivera.

The video design featured two live cameras which captured and reprojected the tabletop archival activities of the performers, magnifying the materiality of historical documents, photographs, and ephemera.
